‘Tis the season to eat lots of food with family, festivities, and functions to attend. Temptations are everywhere with parties and travel plans that disrupt daily eating routines. What’s more, it all goes on for weeks. How can you expect yourself to follow your meal plan for your best health while everyone else is splurging? Here are 5 tips that may help:


Holiday-Proof Your Plan!
a. Invited to a party? Offer to bring a healthy dish along.
b. If you have a sweet treat, cut back on other calories (breads, potatoes).
c. If you slip up, get right back to healthy eating with your next meal.

Outsmart the Buffet!
a. Have a small plate of foods you like best; then move away from the buffet.
b. Eat slowly. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to realize you are full.
c. Start with vegetables to take the edge off your appetite.

Fit in Favorites!
a. No food is on the naughty list. Portion size, frequency of consuming the item matters.
b. Most foods can fit in your daily intake if you plan for them.

Keep Moving!
a. Know this task is your secret holiday weapon.
b. Take a walk after a holiday meal.
c. Activity can help reduce stress.

Get your Zzzz’s!
a. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to guard against mindless eating.
b. Sleep deprivation may make you prefer high-fat, high-sugar foods.
c. Sleep can help reduce stress.
